WHO IS THIS WORKSHOP FOR?

From the novice to the experienced photographer and everyone in between. Your actual skill level doesn’t matter, what does matter is that you have an DSLR or mirrorless camera - and a tripod. There are only 5 places available.

This is so there will be enough time to give everyone personal advice and answer questions. With two experienced instructors, our intention is not only to provide a memorable experience, but also to share our knowledge and passion for the skill of photography.

You will need to have a reasonable level of fitness for this workshop. Some locations are easily accessible, others will involve a hike. You will of course be able to opt out of parts of the workshop if you decide you would prefer some down-time and the party may be split at times to provide multiple options.

What to expect

Donegal is a beautiful part of Ireland, offering multiple photographic opportunities. There will be no set itinerary for this trip as we will be keeping a close eye on weather forecasts to ensure we have the best conditions for specific locations. However, we would plan on capturing sunrise and sunset each day. This will necessarily involve some early starts, and some late nights.

Locations that we will choose from include Fanad Lighthouse, Murder Hole beach, Bad Eddie (Eddie’s Boat), Crohy Sea Arch, the Sabrina wreck, Errigal mountain, and Dunlewey – as well as other less well-known spots.

Every day will be dedicated to photography, and our aim will be to guide, to educate, to inspire and to provide you with an unforgettable experience. We will travel widely to bring you to the most beautiful locations but we will take the time to improve your photography and ensure that you gain knowledge and come away with images you can be proud of.

This will be a weekend workshop, commencing Friday evening for a stunning sunset location, finishing around 1pm on the Sunday. Our aim will be to capture sunrise each day, followed by a break for breakfast, and then be out shooting again. Further breaks will be scheduled in line with that day’s plans and of course the prevailing weather.  In particularly bad weather, we can potentially spend some time with processing tuition.

what to bring

  • A longer telephoto lens could prove useful but is not essential.

Your instructors

Rory O'Donnell

Rory has spent a lifetime roaming the Donegal hills or kayaking around the coast and exploring its islands. Mainly a Fuji shooter he also shoots Canon and has a range of lenses for both systems for participants to try over the duration of the workshops. Outside of photographing landscapes he enjoys drone photography and astro photography.

Brian Maguire

Brian has had a camera of some sort in his hands since he was a teenager, growing up in Belfast. He splits his time now between Belfast and Donegal, which he regards as his spiritual home. A Nikon shooter (and drone enthusiast), he also has considerable experience with Canon, Fuji and Sony cameras. His first love is seascape photography, particularly along the Wild Atlantic Way.
